Highlights of Gaile Visit Re: Nightfall
Rather than writing that all out myself I'd thought I'd post this here for all to read.

(I wasn't there for the whole thing, and she was still talking when I left, so feel free to post anything I missed.) - Character slots are coming "VERY soon". Players will be able to purchase up to 26 character slots on top of what they recieve for merging chapters. They will be purchasable in-game. Slots are $9.99 each in the U.S. (no word on Europe cost), are purchased with a CC (I assume it's credit card and not candy cane...) and are permanent regardless of what chapters you buy/merge.
- No additional character slots for the upcoming PvP Preview weekend. (The usual "most people who want to participate will already have a PvP slot" explanation.) Remember to take items off Nightfall chars before the weekend ends, since they will be locked until release.
- Reconnects, saved skill sets: On the to-do list, no time frame.
- Selling storage options for RL money, in-game voice chat, game cards for purchasing character slots, raising gold limit in trade window: Good ideas.
- Merchant buybacks, SF-sized free updates: Probably not.
- Alternative access to Elite Missions, Assassin/Ritualist content in Nightfall: Will have to ask.
- Gaile's going to stop making her Triple Chocolate Brownies of Death if the dev team doesn't add a use for gems one of these days
- Gaile's Nightfall profession pick: The Paragon, because she likes their outfits.
- No news on Nightfall, it's a little early to start talking specifics.
- Nightfall will not have a monthly fee, it will probably be similar in price to Factions and Prophecies.
- We WILL get character slots with Nightfall- 4 if unlinked, 2 if linked, same as Factions.
- Nightfall is "Specifically designed to appeal to RPGers." Factions had a significant focus on PvP, so Nightfall will have a significant focus on PvE  That said, there will be a new PvP game mechanic that will blow the socks off PvPers (see the mention of Hero vs. Hero battles, here).
- Random fact: ANet had BBQ yesterday.
- Random Gaile quote of the day: "Please, please, don't uppercase. The eyes, they burn! "
|
It's all sounding great but it does seem to be that the assassins/ritualists will have no additional skills in this, or unlikely to from the conversation.

If they admitted that before Factions was released there might have been a lot less pissed off players around (who also might not have bought it). Anyway, at least now there's official confirmation of what many already suspected.

Sigh. The alternat access to elite missions was promised aaaaaaaaaaaages ago, and still isn't out? (I'm not there in the game yet, but it's still terrible that they haven't fixed that.)

"Character slots are coming "VERY soon"."
"No additional character slots for the upcoming PvP Preview weekend"
Hmm...
If this means we will get character slots shortly AFTER the event it seems this is a very poor marketing strategy for Anet. They would be wise to release the slots with the event start. The only reason I think they won't is because of Gaile's information which said there will be no additional slots for the event. Lets hope I'm wrong.

Gaile ment no character slots SPECIFICALLY for this event, it has been a request by the community for a while now, to have a slot special for these types of events so they can participate when they use every single character slot they have.

Right, I know that. I was only saying that I hope they release the purchaseable slots with or before the event.
I'd hate to have to delete my new ele at HzH just to try out the new classes.

I thought it seemed pretty obvious from the PVE preview weekend that Alliance Battle was really the star of Factions.

I agree with this other guy before, got a link on that promise? I recall no such thing.
Not like it was ever that hard for any Kurzick to get a free ferry from oOo when they held house and EoE now. Donno what things are like on the Luxon side.

Oh well. Guess I will wait for the PvE preview then. No way am I going to kill off one of my lvl 20 characters just to be able to do a weekend preview of Nightfall. A pity, I would have enjoyed a romp around a PvP event when it is full of noobs (like me), watching all the dedicated PvP'ers turn purple because I didn't bring the latest and hottest build.
How long before all the wannabe Dervishes and Paragons are slaughtered by core profession characters brought over specifically to be able to crow about how l33t they are? 12 hours? 24 hours? No longer than that, I bet!

All a pvper has to look at are the Paragon and Dervish pre-made templates.
Look at how they work. Build a counter build. Jump into RA and kill all of them because they are new at their classes.
fun fun fun.

Keep in mind that those 26 slots are in ADDITION to the slots that you get from chapters. So if you have the first three chapters, you will have 34 slots. So you could take the 6 core professions and have every primary/secondary combonation (i.e. 5 warriors and 5 elementalists and 5 monks, etc.) and still have 4 slots, one for each of the expansion professions. Who needs to reroll, just switch characters, lol

To cry for.
Hero vs Hero won't blow the socks of any pvp player.
This saddens me. I hope the skills are worthy of pvp, else this chapter will be disappointing for me.

Yup, hre's the link
Or, here's a quote:
"Hey, all,
Just a word that we hear you, and are currently working on solutions to this concern. I don't have specifics yet -- the design team is meeting to discuss various options and you know how super-secretive they are! But there will be an alternative means for players to access Elite Missions.
Do remember the devs will devise, discuss, and then test this new means of access. They'll amend, if necessary, or roll out if all is found to be good to go. Basically, nothing is easy, or simple, when you want to do it right. So give us a month or two to finalize this system, and we'll share more with you as it becomes available!
Thanks for your thoughts. To those of you who expressed your concerns so constructively and with such support, an extra-special thanks!
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...032505&page=11" - Gaile Grey
Been several months and not a word.

That elite mission comment annoys me as well. Those of us who were in TC worked hard and saw that as a great achievement well worth the headaches.. Im hoping that doesnt mean theres a possibility that its not happening.
I've heard different messages about the current alliance ferrying, and while its nice when alliances do ferry, I'd like to see the alternate access in the future..
